About Ethicology
Ethicology is a research program in Human Systems Ethics, examining the evolution of human capability and the conditions under which that capability is exercised. Its research investigates how relational, informational, institutional, and technological systems structure the conditions of human agency, and the ethical consequences for autonomy, vulnerability, choice, responsibility, and human capability.
Drawing from behavioral science, institutional governance, and scholarship in ethics, Ethicology develops integrative models for understanding how contextual conditions become ethically significant within human systems.
Current Research
Human Systems Ethics examines how human agency is structured within relational, informational, institutional, and technological systems, and the ethical consequences of the conditions under which people perceive, choose, consent, and act.
Rather than treating these systems as separate domains of ethical inquiry, Human Systems Ethics examines the conditions and patterns that may operate across them.
Conditional Vulnerability Ethics
CoVE examines ethical vulnerability across changing contextual conditions, with particular attention to autonomy, agency, and ethical decision-making—and how recognizing changing conditions may create opportunities to preserve meaningful choice before vulnerability emerges.
Dynamic Agency Under Contextual Constraint: A Self-Calibrating Information Model
Dynamic Agency examines human agency under changing contextual and informational conditions, asking how possibilities for choice may shift across environments and over time—without requiring resolution of whether choice itself is ultimately determined or free.
Conservation of Potential
Conservation of Potential examines what possibilities remain available under conditions of constraint, with particular attention to the persistence of future possibility across changing conditions—and how potential may be altered without necessarily being eliminated.
